Why Buying a Used SUV is a Good Idea
Harry Lloyd
A new ballgame
Used car sales are perhaps more popular now than any previous time in history. The sudden shift in focus came because of the change in car buyer's concerns and priorities, due mostly to the state of the economy since 2008 and the ballooning of gas prices across the world.
Where it was once a status symbol to barrel down the road in a ridiculously over-sized and laughably inefficient SUV, now it's all about the hybrids, economy cars and especially the
cheapest local used cars.
When the economy hit a rough patch and gas prices shot up like a rocket, it seemed like the perfect recipe for
sales on used cars to blow up, and that's exactly what happened.
Cause and effect
Take the outrage of gas prices and combine it with incentive programs like the Cash for Clunkers, and it's easy to see why so many people are ditching their old ride and opting for the more affordable and practical used vehicles. This caused bigger and less efficient vehicles to pile up quickly at
used car dealerships, especially SUVs.
Many people who rushed to get rid of their larger vehicles are now turning back to them, and are just sucking it up and dealing with the worse gas mileage. It may not be a perfect situation, but many drivers and families need more space and capabilities than what a small economy car can offer.
Not to mention that used cars don't grow on trees, people need to sell them to dealerships before people can buy them as a used car. There were an abundance of used SUVs but not so many smaller cars.
This simple supply and demand concept is why used SUVs are lower priced than ever before, and are excellent candidates for used vehicles. Car buyers have taken everything in stride, and even though it's all about gas mileage now, they are proving that a used SUV is still a viable and practical solution.
