Chevy Trax

Expanding markets

GM has announced two new cars in the making, a new v8 rear wheel drive Chevy SS and the compact SUV born to target international markets, the Chevy Trax.

For industries as large as the automotive one is, it's not enough to be competitive and adapting to just one market. It's truly a global market, and to stay relevant, car companies like GM are designing vehicles and deals on new cars that cater to specific demographics and regions.

International SUV

The Chevy Trax is a new compact SUV designed only for sales outside of the US, most notably in Canada and Mexico. GM feels confident in their Chevy Equinox, their current American option for an entry-level crossover, so the Trax will never see Chevy dealerships in America.

The Trax is built on the Chevy Sonic's platform, and is designed to have the space of an SUV and the efficiency and driving dynamics of a car. The Trax will be revealed at the Paris Auto Show in September, and will eventually be released to 140 countries around the world.

Chevy SS
Super Sport

For the first time in 17 years, Chevy will build a Chevy SS rear wheel drive performance car with a standard v8 engine. A version of this car will also take over duties as Chevy's stockcar for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, and will debut at the 2013 Daytona 500.

The race car will be very closely related to the production version of the performance sedan that will arrive at dealers in late 2013. Even with the hardships that NASCAR has had recently, there is still a large enough market for this car to have success.

Their previous race car was the Chevy Impala, but it received a totally redesign for 2014. The Impala revealed at the New York Auto Show showed their new focus for the large sedan, which was to shed its “fleet car only” status and become a legitimate contender for every day drivers.
