After the American auto industry almost all but abandoning the diesel gas engines over two decades ago, for various reasons, but now Chevy unveils it's 2014 clean diesel Cruze. Having abandoned production of these engines in the states, some auto makers are starting to look towards them for better gas mileage while not hindering the cars performance.
The biggest complaint many have about how hybrids perform is they lack the acceleration to keep up with high way speeds. Many find a really lack of pick up when passing or getting onto the freeway. While much has gone into to cut down this slow going feel, it still is a noticeable difference from standard engines.
High Gas Mileage, Reliable, and Almost No Performance LossWith the shift and changes to the diesel engines to meet emission standards there is plenty of interest in a vehicle that doesn't lose performance and also has high MPG. Chevrolet's Cruze is joined by Chrsyler's Jeep Grand Cherokee and Mazda's Mazda6 sedan in offering diesel versions of their engines. If the sales go as they are expected this could be one of the alternatives available to buying a hybrid.
With this new approach to achieving high MPG and keeping the car clean from emissions, we can only hope it catches on. The Cruze is slated to deliver 42MPG in city, but that comes with a price. These diesel engines will be slightly more expensive than their standard engines, but far less expensive than the hybrid alternatives.
