Best New Car Warranties

Peace of mind

If you don't know what a warranty is and how it affects your car buying, take a second to find out about what they are and how they can help you out. Warranties are basically an insurance policy that you take out on your new car, and will completely cover your new vehicle in case anything happens.

Getting the best warranty is a critical part in the car buying process. Unfortunately, much like finding the right car financing, it is often overlooked. Many people assume that their warranties are all the same and the price is nonnegotiable, and they really treat it as just an after thought.

This couldn't be further from the truth, as not all manufacturers' warranties are created equal. Not only that, if you don't shop around for the best deals on pricing from dealership to dealership, you could end up paying too much for it.

Down to the numbers

Most warranties are typically for 3 years / 36,000 miles, whichever comes first. They are commonly called bumper to bumper warranties, meaning they will make any necessary repairs or replacements, besides for a few things like the tires and brake pads.

There are also powertrain warranties that are usually a bit longer, sometimes as much as 10 years / 100,000 miles and they cover the critical components like the engine and transmission.

Of course not all car makers offer the same warranties, and it can even vary from model to model. Enticing car buyers with better warranties is quickly becoming an effective way to sweeten their car deals just a bit more. Here are some of the basic warranties from car makers that stand out among the crowd:

Manufacturer Years / Mileage Covered
Hyundai 5 / 60000
Kia 5 / 60000
Mitsubishi 5 / 60000

Most of the big name car makers stick to their 3 years / 36,000 miles, besides for these three manufacturers. The only other companies that come close to these stellar offers are luxury brands, like Cadillac, Buick, Acura and Lexus.
