Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix

Coming back to Detroit
After being missing in action for four years, professional racing returns to Detroit in 2012 in the form of the
Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix.
It's an all weekend event that features Indy cars, Trans-Ams and high performance sports cars every where you turn. The race has 14 turns and covers just over two
miles.
President of General Motors North America, Mark Reuss, spoke to kick things off at the Detroit Yacht Club for the media event. He touched on the point that it
simply did not make sense that these kinds of races were not held in the Motor City.
Many people would agree, including the crowd, who showed how much they agreed
with applause. Detroit is certainly a city that could use the attention, and there could not be a better place to show off what Detroit really offers than on Belle Isle.
Car manufacturers are hopeful that the return of these popular races will not only drive their
car sales, but also bring more of these world class automotive events to the Motor Capital of
the World.
Motor City Island
Nearly every big car maker has a pony in at least one of the races that will take place this weekend on beautiful Belle
Isle. The roadways and grassy areas along the river were teeming with mechanics and drivers swarming around working on their vehicles.
The event was obviously
sponsored by Chevrolet, and they had a large outdoor area with spaces dedicated to showing off every car in the
Chevy lineup. The majority of the Chevy cars around the island were the
new Camaros, but the Chevy Volt was also featured in several places.
