Should You Get Financing Before Buying a Car

Get a Car Loan First

First things first

Buying a car can be a pretty daunting task for anyone, especially if you have never dealt with it before. Many people have no idea about all the important steps involved in finding the right finance and getting their car, and unfortunately that can end up costing them money in the long run.

One question people commonly ask is whether or not they should they shop around for financing deals before shopping for the actual cars? The answer is almost always yes.

Why it pays off

While dealers often have offers like 0% interest or rebates that could potentially be the best car deal, they are often only on specific less popular models. These deals are also typically only available to people with top notch credit scores as well.

For most drivers, shopping around national and local lenders is the best bet. These are typically the best sources of realistic car loans. You need to shop around as much as possible and get as many quotes as you can, the more deals you find the better your chance is of finding a good one.

That's not the only reason why shopping around for loans before going to the dealership is a good idea. After you do find the best deal that you will be offered, you can take all that information into the dealer and see if they can beat it. If not, you already know you have the best option in hand.

Dealers often get commission when they set you up with financing themselves, so if you come in unprepared than you are essentially just paying more for something you can do yourself.

Being prepared for your car deals ahead of time is one of the only real ways you can be sure to get the best possible pricing. Not only will you know that you took care of everything you possibly could, you will also show the dealer that you mean business and you are here to get a good deal.
