The Ford Fusion Energi
Harry Lloyd
Ford Fusion Plug In
The Ford Fusion Energi is the new plug in hybrid variation of Ford's midsize sedan. This new Ford Fusion will look to compete with some of the early leaders in the electric market, specifically the Chevy Volt, when it hits dealerships next year.
Ford will offer a regular gas, a hybrid, and an electric plug in choices for its 2013 Fusion. This plug in variant of the Fusion is a highly anticipated and exciting car for 2013, especially with Ford's bold claim that it will be the world's most efficient midsize car.
They expect it to get 100 mpge (miles per gallon equivalent), which would beat out the Chevy Volt and Toyota Prius Plug In. The only production car that gets better is the 100% electric Nissan Leaf, the 2013 Fusion Energi is a much more practical choice for an everyday vehicle.
You can expect that Ford knows exactly how much its competitors cost, so although pricing has not yet been released, it's a safe bet it will be close to the Chevy Volt.
What's so special
What makes this car different from all the others on the hybrid cars list is its innovative approach to the electric vehicle. The Fusion Energi can run on electricity alone for up to 20 miles, at speeds of up to an incredible 85 mph.
There are three different driving modes to control the electric motor; EV:Auto, EV:Now and EV:Later. EV:Auto will switch between hybrid and electric as needed, EV:Now will operate entirely on electricity, and EV:Later will operate solely as a hybrid.
This new Fusion Energi is an attractive prospect not just because of its projected world leading gas mileage, but also because it comes as a Ford Fusion, one of the highest quality everyday cars on the market.
The 2013 model is completely redesigned from the 2012 Ford Fusion, and it got more Aston Martin looking styling and is also one of the smoothest driving and most comfortable cars in its class.
When this car hits dealerships next year, be sure you give it a look if you want a super efficient family car.
