New Ford Fusion Gets Redesigned for 2013
Bruce Sheridan
New look and new functionality
The midsize sedan market is a very difficult segment to nail down. These cars have to affordably offer pretty much everything to its drivers; attractive styling,
luxurious and spacious interiors, engaging driving dynamics, practical functionality and enough gas mileage to not break the family budget.
The
new Ford Fusion for 2013 will try to strike the perfect balance of these elements by taking a new approach to the midsize family car. They are doing
this by focusing on improving in a few key areas and offering new kinds of choices and options for their
new car deals.
Choose your engine
Ford will be offering three different gas engines, a hybrid engine and a plug in hybrid engine. This innovative approach will let drivers choose the right engine for their Fusion much like you would choose any other option, rather than having to choose an entirely different trim specifically for an engine type.
Many cars in this segment are dropping their v6 engine out of the lineup, thinking that most drivers these days would be more inclined to choose fuel economy over more horsepower. The
2013 redesign for the Fusion will replace its v6 option with a turbocharged 4-cyl engine.
This new Fusion will be designed to be much more efficient than previous years and will likely push Ford right to the top of the class in terms of efficiency for its Fusion Hybrid and its 1.6L 4-cyl EcoBoost engine. The Fusion Energi plug in hybrid is expected to get an even 100 mpge, or miles per gallon equivalent for electric motors.
More than just a pretty face
The first thing most people will notice is different about this Fusion from the
2012 Fusion is its new luxury car styling. The new grille and sleeker styling makes this new Fusion one of the better looking cars in this segment.
Ford has placed a big emphasis on packing in more safety and infotainment technology to their vehicles, and the Fusion will get a lot of both. A new start/stop system, new editions of the MyFord Touch and Ford Sync and more safety features than the competition should make this Fusion one of the most technologically gifted midsize sedans on the market.
