Acura RDX Gets Big Redesign
Harry Lloyd
All new RDX
Acura, the luxury division of auto maker giant Honda, had a competitor in the entry level crossover SUV car deals market with their RDX. Debuting back in 2006, the Acura RDX did not make the big splash in the
car deals world that it was expected to. This year however, the focus has been shifted and a whole new RDX is ready to step on to the scene.
More under the hood
The first thing Acura did was replace the outgoing 2.3L straight turbo charged four-cylinder engine with a more powerful and more fuel efficient 3.5L v6. The old engine got 19 city / 24 hwy mpg, with 240 horsepower and 260 lbs/ft of torque.
The new v6 gets 20 city / 28 hwy mpg with 273 horsepower and 251 lbs/ft of torque. For
cheap new cars in the crossover SUV market, these are pretty impressive numbers for the new v6 engine. The new engine is also paired to a new six speed transmission, which replaces the old five speed and gives a smoother ride.
RDX AWD
One of the things that set the old Acura RDX apart was the Super Handling All Wheel Drive system, which gave it authority on twists and turns that most other vehicles in its class could simply not match. The AWD option returns this year, but it is a rehash of the Honda CR-V AWD.
Although it is not as agile as the previous system, it is certainly no pushover, and also is much lighter and cheaper than before. The overall price will actually go up a little bit to $34,320. A generously equipped 2013 RDX will be one of the highest valued
cars under 40000 dollars on the market.
Downsizing is pretty popular right now, but the new RDX manages to give a bigger and stronger engine and still save on fuel economy. The new RDX also comes with considerably more interior room than the outgoing model. All in all, the RDX learned from its mistakes in the last few years and is coming back to the table with an all around better product. Look out for the 2013 RDX this year.
