Obama visits the Washington Auto Show

President Barack Obama visited the Washington Auto Show on Tuesday, and he took the time to comment on the recent positive reports streaming in from the nation's top new car dealers. As he's gearing up for the 2012 election, Obama didn't miss the opportunity to point out how his administration helped the auto industry rebound. The commander in chief also took a jab at his likely Republican rival, Mitt Romney, according to The Associated Press.

Obama took a seat in a few new cars, including a plug-in electric hybrid and burly trucks. He said that the "auto industry is back," and reminded the audience that his administration helped rescue two big car dealers, General Motors and Chrysler, when they were nearing collapse.

While Obama stopped short of singling out Romney, he did say that it was "good to remember the fact that there were some folks who were willing to let this industry die," the news source reports. "Because of folks coming together we are now back at a place where we can compete with any car company in the world."

Obama is a known supporter of green vehicles. He recently announced a potential plan that could eventually help consumers save $1.7 trillion at the pump.
