Cars.com, in conjunction with USA Today and Motorweek, held a competition to find the best three-row SUV or crossover that featured family-friendly accessories and cost less $37,000. Today it released the winner of that competition – the 2012 Honda Pilot.
"The Honda Pilot won for its great mixture of comfort, roominess, features and efficiency," said Patrick Olsen, editor-in-chief at Cars.com. "It is the perfect SUV for buyers who want to comfortably haul the entire family and all of their gear."
Seven separate SUVs were tested in a three-day period to uncover which new car was the most family-friendly. These tests included highway driving to determine gas mileage, expert analysis to assess the family-friendly features, comfort, style, ride quality, and a day of family testing during which an actual family of four got to take the vehicle for a spin.
Olsen says that interest in SUVs took a hit in 2008 due to rising gas prices, but that families who don't want a minivan are still likely to turn to these vehicles to accommodate their needs when looking for the best auto sales.
