Toyota Dealerships Cut Back on EVs and Invest in Hybrids

Toyota refocuses
Electric vehicles are probably the way of the future, but Toyota feels like this future may still be a little ways off. Next time you use a Toyota dealership locator and give them a visit, you may find much less EVs and much more hybrids than expected.
Saying what many people are thinking these days, Toyota stated that there really is not a very realistic market for electric vehicles right now. They are unfamiliar, cost too much and have questionable longevity; among other things. Not to mention the new 2013 hybrids for sale are getting much more fuel efficient than ever before, and are coming at more reasonable prices.
In light of this, Toyota has dramatically cut back production plans of its electric mini car, the Scion eQ. This leaves the limited number of Scion eQ and RAV4 EV as the only Toyota produced electric vehicles for the time being. They say they only plan to sell 2,600 RAV4s and 100 eQs over the next three years.
Greener pastures
Instead of diving head first into the electric territory, Toyota is content on continuing to pioneer hybrid technology. In the next three years, they plan to add 14 vehicles to its hybrid cars list, bringing its grand total to a whopping 21.
Toyota breaks hybrid sales records constantly, and they have been able to stay the dominant hybrid manufacturer due almost entirely in part to the Prius. There is an entire family of Prius vehicles now, each fine tuned to corner their own specific demographic.
The original Toyota Prius is the same stalwart classic it has always been. The Prius C is a smaller Prius designed for city driving, and has the best fuel economy of any non electric vehicle, and start for less than $20000.
The Prius V is a larger family wagon, but it still achieves excellent gas mileage. Last but not least there is the Prius Plug In, which uses an electric motor to supplement its hybrid engine.
