Auto Sales Grow Across the Board
Harry Lloyd
Growth is growth
Many car manufacturers fell short of their expected sales for the month of May, but there was still growth across the board. The soft sales figures this month were affected by the national unemployment issues.
Toyota had a great May this year, and continued its steady bounce back from the natural disasters that set it back in 2011. Their
new car deals increased by 87%, which was just 3% shy of its estimated growth.
Chrysler had an increase of 30% over last year, and for the 26th consecutive month experienced growth. GM's sales grew by 11 percent, but they were projected to see as much as a 15% increase. Nissan was expected to see a 29% growth but only saw 21%.
While the growth was not quite as big as it was projected to be, but it was still growth nonetheless. May has always been a good time of year for car sales, and many car manufacturers are hoping that the
car sales in June will continue the upward trend.
Pushing incentives
Many car makers this May tried to push heavy incentives and rebates to drive their sales, especially for Memorial Day weekend. One company that pushed incentives hard for the month of May was Ford.
Ford dealers were actively offering deals on their F-Series trucks, which are always big sellers.
Incentives were not the only reason that sales grew for everyone. The next year's models are right around the corner, and many cars are receiving new designs. Many of these outgoing model cars received big discounts to try and clear them out.
Many people will also be graduating and buying new cars this time of year as well, which is another reason why car sales always grow this time of year.
